Archiving children's books and book art is can entail a number of important decisions regarding any collection, large or small. Some of the many decisions a collector may need to make include:
  • Where and how do I want to shelve my collection items?
  • What environmental conditions do I need to be aware of, such as light, moisture, smoke, temperature, etc.?
  • Are protective boxes, slipcases, bindings or other methods of preservation useful to consider?
  • Do I want to catalogue my collection items?
  • If so, do I want to utilize a simple computer program list or an interactive, searchable data base?
  • Do I want to digitize my collection, or any part of it?
  • How do I insure, ship, or temporarily store my collection materials?
Children's Book Gallery is happy to consult with our customers on these and any other archive issues, and to share best practices used by other collectors, libraries and professional institutions.
